How to install custom paints (for BAT and BAP)

The paints available with BAT/BAP are very good, but a time will come when you simply want more or need more paints. Either that or you just don't like those colors or patterns. This is where custom decals available at sites like SimArchitect come in very useful. You might even want to create your own (which is an advice article I am currently working on). These custompaints, just like custom decals and props need to be added to your custompaints list. It is only a 3 step process and it only takes about 1 minute for every zip. Below are the 3 steps :-)

1. Download the paints from any site you want. SimArchitect's custom addons section is a great place to start. Download the paints, just like you would any other file into any directory.

2. Most (if not all) sites (including simcity.com and SimArchitect) use winzip to distribute paints. This is mainly because paints are often in sets. If the site you downloaded the paint(s) from does not use winzip just download the files into the folder in step 3. After downloading, open the zipped file with winzip (or another zip extracting programs). Eachpaints is one .bmp file.

3 (for Unlimited/World Edition users). Using winzip (or a zip extractor of your choice) extract or unzip (either one works) to "..\apps\bacustom\paints". This folder is located in your SimCity 300o Unlimited/World Edition directory. If the site you downloaded the prop(s) from then download the files into the directory above.

3 (for original users). Using winzip (or a zip extractor of your choice) extract or unzip (either one works) to "..\paints". This folder is located in your Building Architect Tool directory. If the site you downloaded the decals(s) from doesn't use zip files then download the files into the directory above.

That's it. Now you can open BAT or BAP and use your new paints!
