Creating Custom Paints
Author: Peshi Date: Tuesday, July 16 2002 There are thousands of paints already available to download on the internet, but sometimes you can't find that exact paint you are looking for or you want to use a gradient on your building. Custom paints are very easy to make. You can use almost any graphics editing program, but in this tutorial I'll be using MSPaint which comes free with windows. You can use either program it doesn't really matter, but personally I prefer MSPaint. Sizes and Shapes: Paints must be squares (unlike decals). If they aren't square BAP/BAT probably will not load. Something else to keep in mind is that paints must be at least 16x16 (pixels). If you choose to create a bigger paint the width and height must be a multiple of 16 (32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and so on). You can set the size of the paint to the exact pixel by pressing Control-E. ![]() Designing the paint: Designing the paint is normally a fairly simple process depending on what you are creating. In many cases you can search for what you want at Google Image Search and copy it into MSPaint. You can also create your own design for your paint if that is more to your liking. Transparencies: BAP/BAT allows you to create transparent paints which allow you to create "windows" which allow you to look through walls. To create a transparent area colour that area with "hot pink" which is 255, 0, 255 (Red, Green, Blue). Saving/Colours If you use MSPaint then this will be done in the saving process. If you aren't using MSPaint you need to make sure that you use 24-bit colours even if you only use one colour. When using MSPaint make sure that the format which you save in is 24-Bit Bitmap.
